Annunciato il 1 Settembre 2008 sul blog ufficiale di Google, è stato "svelato" da un fumetto (comic book) che ne ha presentato con dovizia di particolari tutte le caratteristiche.
Blogoscoped.com è stato il primo ad essere entrato in possesso di alcune tavole disegnate dal disegnatore Scott McCloud.
